On March 17, the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Statistics and the Qingdao Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics jointly released 2021 Qingdao National Economic and Social Development Statistical Bulletin.

According to preliminary calculations, the city realized a GDP of 1,413.646 billion yuan in 2021 with an increase of 8.3% over the previous year and an average two-year growth of 6.0% at comparable prices. Among them, the added value of the primary industry was 47.006 billion yuan with an increase of 6.7%; the added value of the secondary industry was 507.033 billion yuan with an increase of 6.9%; the added value of the tertiary industry was 859.607 billion yuan with an increase of 9.2%. The ratio of the three industries was adjusted from 3.4:35.3:61.3 in 2020 to 3.3:35.9:60.8.

The scale of foreign trade continued to expand. The total import and export of goods in the whole year was 849.84 billion yuan with an increase of 32.4% over the previous year. The amount and quality of utilized foreign capital increased steadily. In the whole year, 908 foreign-invested enterprises were newly established with an increase of 4.4% over the previous year; the contracted foreign capital was 21.43 billion US dollars with an increase of 20.1% over the previous year, indicating that foreign cooperation has been steadily advanced. In the whole year, the total import and export volume of Qingdao Port's foreign trade was 1,516.74 billion yuan with an increase of 29.6% over the previous year.

By the end of 2021, the balance of domestic and foreign currency loans in Qingdao was 2,408.91 billion yuan with an increase of 302.43 billion yuan than that of the beginning of the year.

The drive for innovation increased significantly. In 2021, Qingdao built 8 new technological innovation centers at provincial level and above, reaching a total of 24. The total number of high-tech enterprises reached 5,554 with an increase of 1,158 over the previous year. Innovations continue to emerge. Preliminary statistics show that in 2021, the city achieved a total of 409 important scientific and technological achievements and 102 provincial-level scientific and technological awards. The transaction volume of technology contracts was 32.01 billion yuan with an increase of 11.7% over the previous year. The shift in driving forces was accelerated and improved in efficiency. The smart home appliance and rail transit equipment industry cluster was successfully selected as the national advanced manufacturing cluster. The "New Economy" investment in the whole year increased by 7.1% over the previous year, accounting for 50.4% of the total investment.

By the end of 2021, the total resident population of Qingdao was 10.2567 million with an increase of 1.49% over the previous year. The per capita disposable income of residents in the city was 51,223 yuan with an increase of 8.6% over the previous year, which was faster than the growth rate of GDP.
