On the morning of February 18, Wang Qingxian, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and secretary of the CPC Qingdao Committee inspected the construction progress of the Qingdao Area of China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone. Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone was the first leg of his inspection tour. He visited CP Pharmaceutical (Qingdao) Co., Ltd. and BGI Qingdao Institute.

Wang Qingxian first went to CP Pharmaceutical (Qingdao) Co., Ltd. where he visited the production lines and asked about the situation of business operation and advantages in marine pharmaceutical R&D of the company as well as the favorable policies it has enjoyed since establishment in the zone. Wang encouraged the company to seize the opportunity, formulate the doubling program and grow bigger and stronger by leveraging the power of capital market.

Wang Qingxian pointed out that biomedicine is one of the strategic emerging industries that Qingdao focuses development on. He encouraged the industry to set ambitious goals and ensure implementation. He also said that the role of trade associations and chambers should be strengthened and amplified. Targeted supporting industrial policies should be introduced to cultivate business growth, so as to integrate the resources of the industrial chain both upstream and downstream, and accelerate the creation of a 100 billion class industrial cluster.  

At BGI Qingdao Institute, Wang Qingxian listened to the introduction about the investment, development and future plans of BGI in Qingdao, as well as the technology-aided measures that the institute has taken to control the COVID-19 epidemic. He visited the gene sequencing project, and encouraged the company to fully capitalize on its technological strengths to claim the vantage point of industrial development.
