On January 9, 2020, H.E. A. Carsten Damsgaard, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to China visited Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone. Martin Bech, Consular at Innovation Centre Denmark Shanghai (Higher education and Science), Yang Huanming, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chairman of BGI Group, and Lars Bolund, head of the regenerative medicine team at Qingdao-Europe Advanced Institute for Life Science joined the tour. Zhu Tieyi, Director General of Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone Administrative Committee met with the delegation.

Ambassador Damsgaard says that cooperation between Demark and Qingdao is remarkable. Based on the platform in life science at BGI Qingdao Genomics Institute and the good cooperation foundation between Qingdao and Denmark, he hopes to encourage more Danish companies to invest in Qingdao and to promote cooperation in various fields including science and technology, innovation, economy and trade, etc.

Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone aims to build a new gateway and hub of opening up in Qingdao. It has signed MOU on comprehensive cooperation with 16 states and cities in 6 countries including Germany, UK, Russia and Finland,etc. Its international cooperation platforms include seven bilateral cooperation parks and centers such as Sino-German Ecopark, China-UK Innovation Industrial Park and China-Russia Local Cooperation Park.
