The Opening Ceremony of Qingdao BGI Cells Center was held at BGI Qingdao Institute in Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone on December 26, 2019. This project is a cell technology research and service platform Shenzhen BGI Cell establishes in Shandong Province.

The total investment of the first phase of this project is not less than 10 million Yuan. It will rely on the technical support of BGI Northern Center, adopt international cutting-edge cell preparation and storage technology and standards, and cooperate with the international top cell therapy research center to create a platform at Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone integrating stem cell and immune cell extraction, preparation and storage. The center will build a cells resources pool that serves Shandong Province and even North China region, promote research of individual diagnosis and treatment technologies and health care application and make contribution to the high quality development of health industry in Qingdao West Coast New Area.

The first meeting of the second council of BGI Qingdao Institute was also held on the day. At present, BGI Qingdao Institute has stored 76,600 specimens, sequence and produce 666T data and bring along the establishment of over 600 million biotech projects in the area.

BGI, known as the BGI Group, is a genome sequencing company headquartered in Shenzhen,China. It was formed in 1999 to participate in the Human Genome Project as a genetics research center. It also sequences genomes of other animals, plants and microorganisms.
