Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark Selected into C40's Green and Thriving Neighbourhoods Case Library
2025-05-14

Recently, the case of constructing a green and thriving neighbourhood at the Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark has been successfully included in "C40's Green and Thriving Neighbourhoods Case Library", setting a benchmark for domestic parks in terms of international cooperation and ecological construction.

It is reported that "C40's Green and Thriving Neighbourhoods Case Library" was initiated by the C40 Urban Climate Leadership Alliance, with the aim of gathering and sharing cases of green and thriving neighbourhoods, as well as net-zero (or near-zero) carbon neighbourhoods around the globe, so as to provide advanced practices and references for other cities.

In recent years, Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark has consistently adhered to a green and low-carbon development path. Drawing on Germany's advanced experience in the construction of ecological parks, the park has taken the "Three Forms of Beauty in Three Spheres (Ecological Beauty, Productive Beauty, and Life Beauty)" as its main line. Centering around key domains including the formulation and application of ecological standards, the configuration and growth of low-carbon industries, as well as the construction and promotion of ecological parks, the Ecopark has dedicated itself to forging a "Zero-Carbon Pilot Zone" and a carbon-neutral "lighthouse base", forming the development model featuring industrial-city integrated low-carbon parks.

Over the past decade, the park has evolved into the new platform for Sino-German ecological cooperation, successively securing prestigious accolades such as the "National Green Ecological Demonstration Urban Area", the "China Habitat Environment Award", the "National Pilot Smart City", and the "Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Award". It has been hailed by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany as "a lighthouse project in the ecological field and a paragon of bilateral cooperation parks between the two governments". The relevant practices and experience have been subsequently promoted by the United Nations Climate Change Conference, the 12th International Green Building and Building Energy Efficiency Conference, the First Sino-German Inter-City Standardization Cooperation Seminar, etc.

Going forward, Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark will continue to leverage its strengths in international cooperation, stay at the forefront of green ecological development, implement the national requirements for achieving "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality", and proactively establish a demonstration zone for green and low-carbon development through Sino-foreign cooperation, thus making positive contributions to facilitating international exchanges and cooperation in the green development of urban and rural construction.
