Sino-German Ecopark is the first demonstrative cooperation project for sustainable development jointly developed by the Chinese and German governments. It is situated in Qingdao West Coast New Area, the 9th national new area of China and located to the south of Jiaozhou Bay Expressway, the northeast of Xiaozhu Mountain Scenic Area, and the north of Muma Mountain Ecological Corridor. The Ecopark has a planned area of 11.6 km2, a reserved area for future expansion of 29 km2, and a long-term planned area of 66 km2.

Development Goals: highlight Sino-German cooperation, low-carbon and environmental protection, industrial transformation, R&D and innovation, green lifestyle, and sustainable development.
Development Plan: The plan was made by a German architecture design office—GMP. The park is designed for about 60,000 people, and the planned plot ratio is 0.65, with 45% of the land for industrial use, 30% for roads and greening, and 25% for residence and public facilities.
Index system: An ecological control index system has been completed and certified by TÜV NORD, one of the top three certification agencies in Germany. The system includes 40 indicators in 4 categories.
Advantages: The Ecopark is located at the east end of the Eurasian Land Bridge and between the Bejing-Tianjin-Hebei Economic Circle and the Yellow River Delta economic circle. It conveniently connects Europe and Asia as well as the north and the south and faces the Pacific Ocean. With well-established sea, air and land transport networks, the park is right next to Qianwan Port and Dongjiakou Port, both being 100 million-ton class ports. It is 30 km from Qingdao Liuting Airport and the new airport of Qingdao.
Through Jiaozhou Bay Bridge and Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel, it’s easy to travel to and fro between here and downtown Qingdao. It is also served by Qingdao-Lanzhou Expressway and Tongjiang-Sanya Expressway. The park has excellent infrastructure and land development conditions. There is huge potential for the development of water, wind, solar and marine resources.
Industrial cooperation: Focusing on the formulation and application of ecological standards, the planning and development of low-carbon industry, and the construction and promotion of green city, the park gives priority to such green industries as energy saving and environmental protection, green energy, environmentally friendly materials, such emerging industries as high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy application, digital science and technology, smart system, and modern service industries such as sci-tech R&D, planning and design, education and training, finance and medical treatment, as well as culture and sport.
Sino-German Ecopark has been rated as national low carbon pilot city, national demonstration zone for intelligent manufacturing, the first national comprehensive standardization demonstration zone, national green manufacturing international innovation park, national smart city pilot zone, national green and ecological demonstration zone, and one of the first national new energy demonstration zones and is a recipient of national living environment award.
