Background

Internationaler Deutscher Irmler-Klavierwettbewerb was inaugurated in 2008 in Guangzhou as part of the Germany-China Initiative sponsored by former German President Horst Koehler and former Chinese President Hu Jintao. It has been successfully held for 6 sessions and the first three ones were all held in Guangzhou. On October 10th , 2014, Premier Li Keqiang visited Germany and attended China-Germany Economic Forum. The Irmler Piano R&D and Production project was signed under the witness of the Chinese Premier and the German Chancellor. Thus, Qingdao West Coast New Area became the host of the final of Internationaler Deutscher Irmler-Klavierwettbewerb.

Since October 3, 2015, the 4th, 5th and 6th Internationaler Deutscher Irmler-Klavierwettbewerb have been jointly held by the Qingdao West Coast New Area government and Sino-German Ecopark. This is a highlight not only for Qingdao West Coast New Area, but also for the whole Qingdao City.
