In August 2016, Qingdao Municipal People’s Government, the People’s Government of Qingdao West Coast New Area, and Shenzhen BGI Gene Research Institute signed an agreement on establishment of Qingdao BGI Gene Research Institute in Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone. Over the past three years, the “three databases and two platforms” established by BGI have been put into operation， and 35,800 samples have been collected, a total of 605T sequencing data generated and 64 high-level articles published, forming an emerging leading genomics industrial system in Qingdao West Coast New Area, based on ocean gene bank, MGI’s high-end biotechnological equipment manufacturing, BGI’s healthcare industry park, etc., and injecting new impetus into high-quality development of life health industry in the Area.
